Himachal Pradesh News : 80 Open School Students in Himachal Fail Class X, XII Even After Nine Attempts
As many as 80 open school students under the Himachal Pradesh Board failed to clear Class X and XII exams despite nine attempts over five years. The board has ruled out any further chances, while allowing re-evaluation applications till January 7, 2026.
As many as 80 students enrolled in the open school system under the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) have failed to clear the Class X and Class XII examinations despite being given nine attempts over a period of five years.
According to official data, the affected candidates include 46 students from Class X and 34 from Class XII. These students have exhausted the maximum number of attempts permitted under board regulations and will not be allowed to appear in the examinations again.
However, the board has provided a final opportunity to seek re-evaluation or re-checking of their answer scripts. Eligible candidates may submit applications on or before January 7, 2026. After this date, no further requests will be entertained, officials said.
In the most recent examination cycle, 9,428 candidates appeared for the Class X examination, of whom 5,985 passed, while 3,018 were placed in the reappear category. Similarly, out of 9,481 candidates who appeared for the Class XII examination, 6,139 qualified and 2,934 were declared reappear.
The Education Board clarified that September 2025 marked the final permissible attempt for these 80 students. Since they failed to clear the examinations even in their last chance, no additional attempts will be granted.
Board officials said the open school system is designed to support students who are unable to pursue regular schooling, and multiple opportunities were extended to help them succeed. However, repeated failure despite nine attempts has raised concerns about academic preparedness, support systems and the effectiveness of remedial measures within the open schooling framework.
As per HPBOSE rules, admission under the open school system remains valid for five years, during which a candidate is allowed a maximum of nine attempts to complete the Middle, Secondary or Senior Secondary course.
For re-evaluation and re-checking of results for Classes VIII, X and XII, candidates must submit online applications through their respective study centres by January 7, 2026. The prescribed fee is ₹1,000 per subject for re-evaluation and ₹800 per subject for re-checking.
Candidates declared as reappear or pass and wishing to appear for reappear or improvement examinations can submit online applications for the March 2026 session through their study centres between December 27, 2025 and January 12, 2026, without a late fee.
