Playback singer Rohanpreet Singh will be the star attraction on the opening night of the third edition of the Shimla Winter Carnival, which begins on December 24 at the historic Ridge. Popular singer Poonam Pandit will also perform on the inaugural evening, setting the tone for the much-awaited winter cultural celebration in the state capital.

Sharing details of the event, Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Surinder Chauhan said the carnival would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who will attend as the chief guest. The opening ceremony will begin with a Mahanati, a traditional Himachali folk dance, followed by a colourful cultural procession showcasing the rich heritage and traditions of Himachal Pradesh.

The four-day carnival will feature performances by prominent artistes from within the state and outside. On December 25, renowned Himachali folk singer Arun Justa will perform alongside Rajiv Sharma. December 26 will see a cultural evening featuring noted Himachali singer Rajesh Tyagi. The concluding night on December 27 will have performances by Rama Bharati and Inder Jeet Singh, a finalist of the popular television reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.

The Mayor said that cultural and star performances have been planned for each evening to ensure a lively and engaging experience for residents and tourists alike.

Apart from musical evenings, the Shimla Winter Carnival will offer a range of attractions, including street plays, theatre performances, band shows and events under the ongoing Voice of Himachal season. Special skits focusing on awareness against drug abuse, particularly chitta, will also be staged as part of the state government’s anti-drug campaign.

Chauhan added that permission has been sought from the Home Department to allow DJ music on New Year’s Eve. If approved, DJ performances will continue at the Ridge until midnight to usher in the New Year.
