Himachal Pradesh News : Himachal Police bar officers below SP rank from interacting with media
Himachal Pradesh Police have barred officers below the rank of SP from briefing or interacting with the media on official matters, as per a new DGP circular.
The Himachal Pradesh Police have barred officers below the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) from briefing or interacting with the media on matters related to crime, law and order, investigations, policing policies and other official issues.
According to a circular issued by the Director General of Police (DGP), only the district SP and the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of the Range are authorised to formally interact with the media on official matters. Even these officers will be required to obtain prior approval from Police Headquarters before addressing the media.
The circular explicitly debars all other officers, including Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs), from making statements, issuing comments or giving interviews to print, electronic or social media platforms in their official capacity, unless they are specifically authorised in writing by the competent authority.
It further directs supervisory officers to ensure strict compliance with the instructions at all levels of the police hierarchy.
The circular warns that any violation or deviation from these directions will be viewed seriously and may attract disciplinary action under the relevant service rules and police laws.
