Himachal Pradesh News : Education Department bans use of guidebooks in classrooms
The School Education Department has directed teachers to stop using guidebooks and help books in classrooms, mandating exclusive use of NCERT textbooks.
The School Education Department has strictly banned the use of guidebooks and help books for classroom teaching, directing all school heads and teachers to rely exclusively on NCERT textbooks.
Issuing the instructions, the Director of School Education warned that strict action would be taken against teachers found violating the directive. The Director observed that despite repeated and clear instructions, some teachers continued to use guidebooks and supplementary help books during classroom teaching.
Such practices, the Director said, were adversely affecting the quality of education by limiting teachers’ own academic inputs and discouraging conceptual learning among students. “The use of guidebooks hampers qualitative education and restricts teachers from delivering subject matter effectively,” the Director noted.
Reiterating the department’s policy, the Director said only NCERT-prescribed textbooks must be used for teaching in classrooms to ensure uniformity, conceptual clarity and adherence to the academic curriculum.
School heads have been asked to monitor compliance closely and ensure that the instructions are implemented in letter and spirit.
