Donald Trump News : Trump sues BBC for $10 billion, alleges defamation over edited January 6 speech
Donald Trump has sued the BBC for $10 billion, alleging defamation and unfair practices over an edited broadcast of his January 6, 2021 speech, which he claims misrepresented his remarks and influenced the 2024 US election.
President Donald Trump on Monday filed a lawsuit seeking USD 10 billion in damages from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), accusing the broadcaster of defamation along with deceptive and unfair trade practices.
In the 33-page complaint, Trump alleged that the BBC aired a “false, defamatory, deceptive, disparaging, inflammatory and malicious portrayal” of him, describing it as a “brazen attempt to interfere in and influence” the 2024 US presidential election.
According to the lawsuit, the BBC allegedly edited footage of Trump’s January 6, 2021 speech by splicing together two separate portions of his remarks. The complaint claims this was done deliberately to distort the original context and meaning of what Trump said, thereby misleading viewers.
Trump has contended that the edited broadcast created a narrative that misrepresented his statements and damaged his reputation, forming the basis of the defamation claim.
