Himachal Pradesh News : Himachal to Launch 100 New CBSE Schools from Next Academic Session: MLA Chander Shekhar
Himachal Pradesh will start 100 new CBSE-pattern government schools from the next academic session as part of major education reforms, MLA Chander Shekhar announced in Mandi.
The Himachal Pradesh government’s focused and forward-looking education reforms are beginning to deliver visible results, significantly transforming the state’s educational landscape, MLA Chander Shekhar said on Sunday.
Addressing annual prize distribution ceremonies at Shaheed Captain Deepak Guleria Government Senior Secondary School, Cholthra, and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Mandap, in Mandi district, the MLA highlighted the government’s strong emphasis on education as a pillar of development.
“Education has been placed at the centre of the state’s development agenda. With the aim of providing quality, modern and competitive education—particularly to students in rural areas—the state government is setting up 100 new CBSE-pattern schools,” Shekhar said. He announced that classes in these schools would begin from the upcoming academic session.
He said the introduction of English medium from Class I in government schools and the expansion of CBSE schools were key components of the government’s education policy. These initiatives, he added, had contributed to Himachal Pradesh’s significant improvement in national education rankings, with the state moving from 21st to fifth position across the country.
To further strengthen the education system from Class I to Class XII, Shekhar said a separate Directorate of School Education had been established, enabling faster decision-making and more effective policy implementation.
During the ceremonies, school principals Kamlesh Thakur of Government Senior Secondary School, Cholthra, and Anil Kumar of Government Senior Secondary School, Mandap, presented annual reports highlighting academic performance, sports and cultural achievements, and improvements in school infrastructure, with an emphasis on holistic student development.
Addressing students, the MLA encouraged them to actively engage in sports, cultural and creative activities alongside academics. He also urged them to stay away from drug abuse, stressing that clear goals, discipline and consistent hard work were essential for success in life.
On the occasion, Shekhar announced a grant of ₹5 lakh for the construction of a safety retaining wall within the Cholthra school premises. He also assured that funds would be provided to change the orientation of the school’s basketball court to improve its usability.
Meritorious students were felicitated at both events, boosting their morale and motivating them to strive for excellence.
The programmes were attended by local representatives, education officials, members of school management committees, parents and community leaders, including panchayat pradhan Sunita of Basantpur, BDC members, school principals, headmasters and teachers. The events concluded with a collective resolve to further strengthen education and nurture future-ready students in the region.
