The Himachal Pradesh Government is set to hold its Jan Sankalp rally in Mandi on December 11, marking three years of the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress administration.

Ahead of the large-scale public outreach event, senior ministers and party leaders have already reached the district to monitor preparations and mobilise support. Paddal Ground is being prepared for the rally, with adequate deployment of police personnel and Home Guard jawans to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain order.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh visited Mandi today to review the arrangements and coordinate efforts across departments. Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, who has been stationed in the district since December 8, is closely overseeing field preparations alongside the local administration.

Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Vinay Kumar has also arrived in Mandi and is holding meetings with party workers to energise the organisation at the grassroots level. According to party insiders, the rally is expected to draw a large crowd as the government prepares to present its three-year performance report and outline its roadmap for the next two years. Announcements of new welfare initiatives—particularly for groups affected by inflation and this year’s monsoon calamities—are also anticipated.

Officials say that security, traffic management and crowd-handling arrangements are in their final stages. Ministers continue to inspect the venue and fine-tune logistical plans. With participation expected from across the state, the gathering is being positioned as one of the government’s largest political events since taking office nearly three years ago.

However, the Opposition has sharply criticised the move. The BJP has accused the Congress government of spending public resources on what it calls a “celebratory event” despite the state still recovering from severe monsoon damage. BJP leaders have also questioned the choice of Mandi as the venue, pointing out that the district was among the worst affected, recording 42 deaths during the disaster.

According to the BJP, the government should prioritise rehabilitation, financial assistance and long-term disaster management instead of organising rallies. The Congress has dismissed these allegations, maintaining that the Jan Sankalp rally is intended to reaffirm the government’s commitment to public welfare and development.
