The state government is committed to bringing qualitative improvements to the education system and upgrading infrastructure to ensure equal opportunities for every child, Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said on Tuesday. He was speaking at the annual prize distribution ceremony of Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) Sinhuta in the Bhattiyat subdivision.

Pathania said that sustained efforts are being made to enhance educational facilities in the Bhattiyat constituency so the region can excel not only in development but also in academics.

Highlighting the progress of recent years, he noted that several reforms have been introduced in the education sector over the past three years, the results of which will become more visible in the coming years. He said the state government has decided to introduce the CBSE curriculum in nearly 100 schools from the next financial year, including three in Bhattiyat — one of them being GSSS Sinhuta.

The Speaker said the current government has set new benchmarks for development in Bhattiyat. Over the past two-and-a-half years, 35 rural roads have been completed, and work on another 35 is underway.

“Development projects worth ₹220 crore have been taken up through the Public Works Department, while water supply projects worth more than ₹200 crore are progressing under the Jal Shakti Department,” Pathania said.

By 2027, more than ₹500 crore will be invested in road and drinking water infrastructure in the constituency.

He urged students to stay away from drugs, calling the rise in substance abuse a major social and state-wide challenge. He appealed to parents and communities to support the government’s efforts to create a drug-free society and encouraged students to pledge to remain drug-free. He also appreciated the work of the local youth club for its ongoing de-addiction awareness campaigns.

The event featured lively cultural performances by students. The chief guest also honoured achievers in academics, sports and co-curricular activities.

Pathania announced ₹31,000 for the school in recognition of its cultural programme.
