Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri observed Armed Forces Flag Day on Sunday by paying heartfelt tribute to the nation’s defence personnel and contributing to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund.

Lt Col SK Kalia (retd), Deputy Director of the Una District Sainik Welfare Office, visited Agnihotri’s residence in Gondpur village, Haroli subdivision, where he pinned the Armed Forces Flag on the Deputy Chief Minister.

Speaking on the occasion, Agnihotri said the day—commemorated every year on December 7—serves as a reminder of the supreme sacrifices made by “immortal heroes” who laid down their lives or suffered grievous injuries while safeguarding the country’s borders. He extended greetings to serving members of the Army, Air Force and Navy, and expressed gratitude to ex-servicemen and their families for their service.

He noted that the small flags pinned on citizens symbolize public solidarity with the armed forces. Donations collected through the Flag Day Fund, he added, are devoted to the welfare of families of martyred soldiers, disabled personnel and retired servicemen. Agnihotri also encouraged people to contribute generously, pointing out that such donations are fully exempt from income tax.

Later, Lt Col Kalia also pinned the flag on Una Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal.
