BJP Intensifies Attack on Himachal Govt Ahead of Three-Year Mark, Accuses Sukhu Regime of ‘Misrule’
As the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh approaches three years in office, the BJP escalates its political offensive at a major rally in Dharamsala, alleging corruption, stalled welfare schemes, and failing governance under Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
With the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh set to complete its three-year term on December 11, the BJP on Thursday launched a sharp offensive against the Sukhu-led administration, accusing it of “misrule, corruption, and anti-people policies.”
The remarks came during a large protest rally organised by the BJP in Dharamsala, drawing thousands of supporters and local residents.
Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur received an enthusiastic welcome, with the crowd chanting, “Hamara neta kaisa ho, Jai Ram Thakur jaisa ho.”
Thakur said that even inside the Vidhan Sabha, BJP legislators often greet each other with “Radhe Radhe”—a pointed reference to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s earlier remark on bringing Congress to power in a “97 per cent Hindu-dominated state.”
Questioning the government’s performance, Thakur alleged that people across all sections of society were now protesting against the Congress. “We have given the call—three years of system collapse, replace this corrupt Congress government,” he said. He further claimed that the state had faced unprecedented natural disasters during the Congress tenure, adding, “This is what the Sukhu government has brought with it.”
The former CM accused the government of halting funds for key social welfare schemes such as the Shagun Yojana and Himcare. Demanding transparency over the use of Central assistance, he asked for details on how the state spent the ₹5,500 crore already released under disaster relief, while acknowledging Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent announcement of an additional ₹1,500 crore, which he said would be released soon.

Thakur also raised concerns over delays in funding for the Central University’s Dharamsala campus, alleged attempts to sell properties belonging to the Agriculture University, and amendments to Section 118 of the Revenue Act, which he described as putting “Himachal on sale.” He condemned the recent cane-charge on ABVP activists, claiming that people across the state were now “ready to uproot the Congress government.”
Lok Sabha MP Anurag Thakur also addressed the gathering, accusing the Chief Minister of acting “against the interests of the Hindu community,” which constitutes 97 per cent of Himachal’s population.
Urging the crowd to chant “Radhe Radhe, Jai Jai Sia Ram,” he criticised the government for deteriorating law and order and worsening financial conditions. He said the Congress had failed to deliver on its election promises and asserted that it must be voted out “to save Himachal Pradesh and restore its development trajectory.”
