Lahaul-Spiti’s Tenzin Dolma Shines on the Global Stage, Wins Silver at Asia-Oceania Championship
Tenzin Dolma from Lahaul-Spiti has won a silver medal in the 100 km ultra-run at the Asia-Oceania Athletics Championship in Bangkok, marking a major milestone for Himachal Pradesh’s rising endurance athletes.
Tenzin Dolma, India’s promising ultra-runner from the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti and currently living in Palchan near Manali, has brought glory to the nation by winning a silver medal at the Asia-Oceania Athletics Championship held recently in Bangkok, Thailand.
Competing in the gruelling 100 km ultra-run on November 22, Dolma displayed extraordinary endurance and steely determination, finishing the race in an impressive 9 hours and 18 minutes. Her podium finish has sparked celebrations in Lahaul-Spiti and across Himachal Pradesh, marking a significant milestone for the region’s growing presence in international endurance sports.
Her path to the global stage, however, was far from easy. Financial constraints nearly kept her from participating in the championship. Timely support came from Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana, who contributed ₹50,000, enabling the young athlete to travel to Bangkok and represent India internationally.
Praising Dolma’s remarkable achievement, MLA Rana reaffirmed her commitment to supporting talented youth from tribal and remote regions. Applauding Tenzin’s grit and performance, she said, “Our district has many gifted athletes with the potential to make the state and the country proud. We will ensure they receive every possible support.”
Dolma’s silver medal has brought immense joy and pride to the district, with the local community, supporters, and sports enthusiasts celebrating her dedication and historic success. Her achievement stands as an inspiration for emerging athletes across the Himalayas.
