A strong message against drug abuse echoed through Dharamshala today as Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu flagged off and participated in the ‘Anti-Chitta Awareness Walkathon,’ reinforcing the state’s growing movement against the rising threat of ‘chitta’.

The walkathon began at Dari Mela Ground and concluded at Police Ground, drawing thousands of participants, including students from more than 50 educational institutions.

Carrying banners, slogans, and determination, the massive crowd marched to spread awareness about drug abuse and highlight society’s collective responsibility in tackling addiction. With the theme ‘Defeat Chitta—Save Our Youth’, the event aimed to bring young people into mission mode to safeguard Himachal Pradesh’s future.

Addressing the gathering at Police Ground, CM Sukhu delivered a firm message: “There is no place for chitta in Devbhoomi Himachal.” He urged the youth to become active partners in eliminating the drug problem, stressing that the fight requires joint effort, vigilance, and sustained commitment.

The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s stringent actions under the NDPS 2024 framework, designed to curb drug trafficking. He noted recent crackdowns, including the confiscation of nearly ₹40 crore worth of properties linked to drug trade. Sending a stern warning to traffickers, he said, “No one—no matter how influential or wealthy—will be spared.”

He also announced the launch of the ‘Chhota Inaam Yojana,’ an incentive-based system encouraging citizens to report drug-related activities. Informants, whose identities will remain confidential, will receive ₹10,000 for information on 2 grams, ₹25,000 for 5 grams, ₹50,000 for 25 grams, and up to ₹5 lakh for larger quantities. Reports can be made directly by dialing 112.
