Conservative Candidate Nasry Asfura Takes Early Lead in Honduras Presidential Election
Early results from Honduras show Conservative National Party candidate Nasry Asfura leading the presidential race with 34% of votes counted. The 67-year-old former Tegucigalpa mayor is backed by former U.S. President Donald Trump. The winner will govern Honduras from 2026 to 2030.
According to early results, conservative candidate Nasry Asfura is leading in the Honduras presidential election.
The country’s electoral authority reported that Asfura, the nominee of the Conservative National Party, is ahead with 34% of the votes counted.
Asfura, 67, is a former mayor of Tegucigalpa and is considered a candidate aligned with former U.S. President Donald Trump. His party’s previous president, Juan Orlando Hernández (2014–2022), is currently serving a prison sentence in the United States on drug-trafficking charges.
The candidate who secures a simple majority will lead the country for the 2026–2030 term.
