As the Himachal Pradesh Winter Session begins, former CM Jai Ram Thakur says the BJP is prepared to “expose” the Sukhu government over issues ranging from law and order to financial mismanagement and disaster rehabilitation.
Himachal Pradesh Winter Session: BJP Ready to Challenge Congress
Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur stepped into the fray on Wednesday as he arrived at Kangra Airport to take part in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly’s Winter Session, which begins today.
Thakur flew in from Delhi after meeting BJP national president J.P. Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He said the discussions focused on the slow pace of post-monsoon restoration work in the state and the need for additional central assistance for relief and rehabilitation.
He added that the BJP has finalized its strategy to corner the government in the Assembly.
“We will raise every issue that concerns ordinary people and will certainly expose the Sukhu government, which has failed on all fronts,” he said.
Speaking to The Tribune, Thakur listed several concerns the BJP intends to highlight: deteriorating law and order; the state government’s confrontation with the Election Commission over panchayat polls; the “unwarranted” use of the Disaster Management Act to delay PRI elections; rising drug infiltration in the hill state, especially in educational institutions; and poor financial management.
He also accused the Congress government of being “on the brink of bankruptcy,” claiming mismanagement had forced the state to delay payments to contractors, stall pension and medical reimbursements for retirees, and hold back employees’ dearness allowance dues.
“The day is not far when people will show the Congress government the door. Himachal Pradesh will witness a new dawn of development,” he said, adding that the BJP stands firmly with those affected by the recent disaster.
