Youth Killed, Three Injured in Late-Night Shootout at Una Hotel; Police Probe Gang Rivalry Angle
A youth was shot dead and three others were injured in a suspected gang-related firing at a Una hotel during a late-night dispute between two groups. Police have named three accused and are probing possible gang rivalry links.
A young man was shot dead and three others were injured in a late-night firing incident at a hotel in Una, in what is suspected to be a gang-related confrontation.
The incident took place around 1 a.m., when two groups stepped out of the hotel and a dispute broke out in the parking area.
According to the FIR, Ashu Puri from Santokhgarh was allegedly shot dead by a group of youths during a birthday celebration at a hotel in LalSinghi on Wednesday night. Three others sustained injuries in the clash.
The FIR states that Puri’s friends were celebrating his birthday at the hotel, where several other young men were also partying. When the two groups exited the hotel around 1 a.m., an argument escalated into violence.
Parminder, a resident of Sanoli village, allegedly shot Puri in the head, killing him on the spot.
A case has been registered against Parminder and his two associates, Gurjit Mann and Purjinder.
Superintendent of Police Amit Yadav said that the youths involved in the fight were known to each other, and the case is being examined for possible links to active criminal gangs and ongoing rivalries in the district.
Puri was an active Youth Congress worker, while one of the accused, Gurjit Mann, is a former president of the Una Block Youth Congress.
