Sukhu Alleges BJP Govt Gave Away Land Worth Hundreds of Crores for Just ₹1.12 Crore
During his visit to Baddi on Wednesday, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu alleged that the previous BJP government handed over 5,000 bighas of land—valued in the hundreds of crores—to large industrial houses for just ₹1.12 crore under the guise of a customised incentive package. The Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 12 development projects worth ₹383 crore.
He distributed ₹17.62 lakh in relief to 18 disaster-affected families, along with cheques amounting to ₹17.03 lakh to 15 beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural). As part of the state’s TB Elimination Programme, he also provided nutrition kits to three patients.
Addressing a public gathering in Baddi during his one-day tour, Sukhu launched a sharp attack on the former BJP government, accusing it of turning a blind eye to corruption. “Stamp duty was waived, electricity was offered at ₹3 per unit for five years, and water was to be provided free of cost under this package,” he said. “As long as I remain Chief Minister, I will not allow the plunder of the state’s assets. We are the custodians of Himachal Pradesh’s resources.”
He added that, in the interest of the state, his government returned the ₹30 crore sanctioned by the Centre for the Bulk Drug Park and decided to develop it independently.
Sukhu further claimed that the BJP’s social media cell was targeting him because of his strong measures to curb corruption. He highlighted the government’s initiatives in the health and education sectors as part of its broader development agenda.
He reiterated that he had repeatedly offered to accompany all seven BJP MPs to the Centre to seek economic assistance for disaster-hit families. “The Prime Minister himself had announced a package of ₹1,500 crore, but we have not received the funds yet. We are supporting the affected families from our own resources,” he said.
The Chief Minister also announced a new Public Works Department division, the upgradation of the civil hospital, and the establishment of an SDM office, a sports stadium, and a modern bus stand. “Baddi’s facilities must match its rapidly growing population,” he noted.
He added that from the next academic session, schools in Baddi, Barotiwala, and Chandi will shift to the CBSE curriculum.
MLA Doon, Ram Kumar, informed the gathering that development works worth ₹475 crore were already underway, and described the upcoming 50-bed hospital in Baddi as a major milestone.
