“State Drowning in Chaos and Deceit,” Says Ex-CM Jai Ram Thakur in Sharp Attack on Sukhu Government
Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur lashed out at the Sukhu-led Congress government, accusing it of administrative collapse, false propaganda, and halting key development projects. Addressing a rally in Hamirpur, he alleged that the state is gripped by “chaos and deception.”
Hamirpur | November 10 —
Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur launched a scathing attack on the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government, accusing it of plunging the state into “chaos, fear, and deceit.”
Addressing a public meeting in Sarkhad, under the Sujanpur Assembly constituency on Sunday, Thakur alleged that the state’s administrative machinery has collapsed under the current government’s mismanagement.
“Instead of improving governance, this government has nearly destroyed the administrative setup. There is unrest everywhere, and the Chief Minister is trying to create an illusion of normalcy through false publicity and misleading claims,” Thakur said.
Refuting the Chief Minister’s repeated allegations that the previous BJP government failed to drive development, Thakur called such remarks “baseless.” He asserted that in just three years, the Congress government has shut down dozens of institutions established by the BJP and stalled ongoing development projects.
Citing official figures, Thakur claimed that over two dozen institutions across five Assembly segments of Hamirpur district have been closed, while thousands more across the state remain non-functional, leaving several projects incomplete.
“This government could have at least completed the initiatives started during our tenure. Instead, it has pushed Himachal backward. For the first time, we have a Chief Minister who seems content closing public facilities, troubling people, and spreading misinformation,” he remarked.
Thakur maintained that his criticism was not personal but a constitutional duty as the Leader of Opposition to raise people’s concerns.
He also accused the Chief Minister of blaming the Central Government to divert attention from his failures. “The Centre has provided ample relief and development funds to Himachal,” Thakur said.
He further criticized delays in disbursing payments under social welfare schemes such as Sahara Pension, Old-Age Pension, and the Shagun Yojana, and alleged that the HIMCARE health card, once offering ₹5 lakh coverage to poor families, “is no longer functioning effectively.”
