Shimla Man Arrested for Marrying Minor and Fathering Child; Charged Under POCSO Act
Shimla | November 8 — A 22-year-old man from Shimla district has been arrested for allegedly luring a minor girl into marriage and fathering a child with her. The case came to light after the Women and Child Development Department received a complaint seeking an inquiry into the marriage of a minor girl in September 2024.
According to a complaint filed by a supervisor from the Directorate of Women and Child Development, the accused, Karan Kumar, a resident of Junga tehsil, allegedly coerced a 17-year-old girl into marriage in 2023. The two also have a daughter together.
During the inquiry, officials found that the accused had manipulated and pressured the girl into marrying him. Following the investigation, police filed a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police said further investigation is underway.
