Churah MLA Dr. Hans Raj is facing serious legal trouble after police registered a FIR under the POCSO Act over allegations of sexual exploitation, blackmail, and threats made by a young woman.
According to officials, the woman approached the Chamba Women Police Station on Friday, accusing the legislator of sexually exploiting her when she was a minor, filming videos to blackmail her, and issuing death threats.
Based on her complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The survivor’s statement has been recorded before a magistrate, and medical examination procedures are underway, police confirmed.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that the MLA lured her into a relationship during her minor years, later using compromising videos to intimidate and silence her.
The case gained traction after the woman went live on Facebook earlier this week, publicly leveling serious allegations against the legislator. In response, Hans Raj also went live on the same platform, denying the charges.
Following the viral videos, the State Women’s Commission directed Chamba Police to conduct a fair and impartial probe.
Just a day before the FIR against the MLA, the woman’s father had filed a separate complaint at the Tissa Police Station against the legislator’s personal secretary Lekh Raj and another aide, Muniyan Khan, accusing them of threatening, coercing, and abducting his daughter to force her to withdraw her statement.
When reporters attempted to contact MLA Hans Raj for his response, his phone was found switched off.
This is not the first time such allegations have surfaced. The woman had earlier accused the MLA of sending obscene messages and demanding explicit photos in August 2024, leading to a police complaint. She later withdrew her allegations, saying she acted under stress or influence. However, in November 2025, she again appeared on Facebook Live, accusing the MLA of renewed intimidation, defamation, and mental harassment, prompting this fresh FIR.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and will be pursued “with full seriousness.”
