Shimla, November 5 — Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday directed the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) to accelerate the execution of ongoing hydroelectric and green energy projects across the state.

Chairing a review meeting of HPPCL’s functioning, the Chief Minister closely examined the progress of major projects, including the 450 MW Shong Tong Hydroelectric Project, and instructed officials to ensure its completion by December 2026. He noted that over 60% of the work had already been completed and emphasized the need to speed up the remaining components. He further directed that the transmission line infrastructure be developed simultaneously to enable timely power evacuation from the project.

Sh. Sukhu also reviewed the status of other major projects — 130 MW Kashang-II and III, 48 MW Chanju-III, 40 MW Renuka Dam, and 191 MW Thana Plaun — and urged strict adherence to their completion timelines.

Highlighting the growing importance of renewable energy, the Chief Minister asked HPPCL to prioritize the development of pump storage projects, particularly the proposed 1630 MW Renukaji and 270 MW Thana Plaun projects. He said such projects play a crucial role in balancing grid load and meeting electricity demand during peak hours.

Reaffirming the State Government’s focus on green and sustainable energy, Sh. Sukhu directed the Corporation to expedite work on ongoing solar power initiatives and identify additional land parcels for new installations across Himachal Pradesh.

He also reviewed progress on the 1 MW green hydrogen plant being set up in Nalagarh, directing that it be completed by June 2026.

Calling for enhanced professionalism and efficiency, the Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to making Himachal Pradesh the “Green Energy State” of India by next year.

Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta, Secretary (Power) Rakesh Kanwar, Managing Director (HPPCL) Abid Hussain Sadiq, and other senior officials attended the meeting in Shimla, while Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister Ram Subhag Singh joined virtually.
