Himachal Pradesh to Award ₹1 Crore to Cricketer Renuka Thakur for World Cup Triumph

The Himachal Pradesh government has announced a cash reward of ₹1 crore for Indian cricketer Renuka Thakur, a key member of the national women’s team that clinched the World Cup title with a thrilling victory over South Africa.

Renuka, the team’s opening bowler, hails from the Rohru region of Shimla district.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu personally called Renuka to congratulate her on her stellar performance and India’s remarkable triumph. “Renuka, your outstanding bowling has made the entire state proud. We are all delighted by your achievement,” the Chief Minister said, adding that he had watched both the semifinal and final matches.

During their conversation, Sukhu told her, “The Cricket Association will certainly honor you for your exceptional performance, but since you represent Himachal Pradesh, the state government will also reward you with ₹1 crore.”

He added that people across the state are eagerly waiting to welcome her home. Responding to a question from Renuka, the Chief Minister assured her that the government would also consider offering her a suitable job.

He invited her to meet him upon her return to Himachal Pradesh.
