Rohru Teacher Suspended for Beating Student with Thorny Branch
A headmistress of a government primary school in Gawana, Rohru subdivision, has been suspended with immediate effect after a video surfaced showing her giving a student “severe corporal punishment.”
In the viral video, the teacher, Reena Rathour, is seen thrashing a crying student with a thorny branch. The child is seen bare-chested, while the teacher repeatedly orders him to remove his pants. Despite the student pleading for mercy, the teacher continues to punish him.
Following the video’s circulation on social media, the Deputy Director of Elementary Education, Shimla, issued orders for the teacher’s immediate suspension.
The suspension order stated:
“This is a gross violation of Section 17 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act and the standing instructions of the government. The conduct amounts to serious misconduct under Rule 3(1) of the CCS Conduct Rules, reflecting a complete disregard for duty and behaviour unbecoming of a government employee.”
