The Solan Police have uncovered 64 inter-state drug trafficking networks since July 2023, marking a major breakthrough in the state’s fight against narcotics.
During this period, police seized 18,636 prohibited drug substances and registered cases against 49 individuals under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Singh said that six habitual offenders have been detained for up to six months under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988.
“These notorious traffickers, who were involved in multiple drug cases and were out on bail, have now been detained under provisions of the NDPS (PIT) Act to prevent further offences,” SP Singh said.
He added that the Solan Police have confiscated assets worth more than ₹15 crore from 37 offenders so far. In one such case, the Kunihar Police seized property worth ₹6.34 crore.
SP Singh also reported the recent arrest of a notorious drug trafficker, Dhani Ram alias Gullu, active in the Darlaghat, Bilaspur, Arki, Solan, Kunihar, and Shimla regions.
A 16-member police team recovered 1.62 kilograms of opium and 1.62 kilograms of cannabis from his house, concealed in a specially built safe.
Investigations revealed that he had purchased property worth ₹6.34 crore in the names of his family members, including a five-storey house, a restaurant, a homestay, an earthmover, trucks, vehicles, cash, and other assets derived from drug trafficking.
Police also found suspicious transactions amounting to ₹3 crore in his bank accounts over the past few years.
Dhani Ram already faces two additional cases under the NDPS Act, registered at Arki and Dharampur police stations.
