Trump Rules Out Running for Vice President in 2028
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that he would not consider running for vice president in the 2028 election — an idea floated by some supporters as a potential path for him to serve another term in office.
“I’d be allowed to do that,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. But he quickly added, “I wouldn’t do that. I think it’s too cute. Yeah, I would rule that out because it’s too cute. I don’t think people would like that. It wouldn’t be right.”
Under the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, no one can be elected president more than twice. Some of Trump’s backers have speculated that he could run as vice president alongside another candidate who would later step down, allowing him to reassume the presidency. However, legal scholars and critics have strongly questioned whether such a move would be constitutional.
