Cabinet Approves Sub-Committee to Regulate Rural Construction in Himachal
The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet on Saturday decided to form a sub-committee to finalise a draft framework aimed at regulating the rapidly growing construction activity in the state’s rural areas.
At a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Cabinet approved the constitution of the committee under the chairmanship of Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi to finalise the draft Rural Area Development Guidelines. The panel will also include Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh, Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh, and Town and Country Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani as members.
Under the proposed plan, gram panchayats will adopt these guidelines as model bylaws to regulate construction in rural regions — many of which are witnessing rapid urbanisation, particularly in areas adjoining towns and semi-urban settlements.
Minister Rajesh Dharmani had earlier indicated that the government intends to bring rural construction under a formal regulatory framework to ensure planned and sustainable development.
