Police said on Thursday that two people were killed and three others injured when a pickup truck fell into a deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district.

The accident occurred near Chail on Wednesday night when the truck, carrying five construction workers to a work site, veered off the road and plunged into a ravine near Jubbar Lake.

According to police, an eyewitness, Nikhil Thakur, stated that he had received a call from a contractor who was sending some workers in a vehicle and had asked him to guide them to the location.

Thakur told police that while he was waiting for the vehicle, he heard a loud crash and immediately rushed to the spot. On reaching the site, he found two people — including the driver — dead inside the vehicle, while two men and a woman were injured nearby. He promptly called an ambulance and informed the police.

The injured were taken to a government hospital in Solan, where postmortem examinations of the deceased are also being conducted, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said.

Police have registered a case under Sections 281 (rash driving), 125 (endangering human life or personal safety of others), and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An investigation is underway.
