Annual Sports Day to be held on November 14 for children of Bal Ashrams

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited the Tutikandi Bal Ashram today and celebrated Diwali with the children and staff. The residents of the ashram welcomed him warmly by lighting traditional earthen lamps and presenting vibrant cultural performances. The Chief Minister interacted with the children, distributed sweets and gifts, and extended Diwali greetings to everyone present.

“The true essence of Diwali lies in sharing joy, compassion, and togetherness,” said the Chief Minister. “These children are our future, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that they grow up surrounded by love, dignity, and opportunity.”

Sukhu announced that the state government will soon launch new welfare schemes aimed at the holistic development of orphaned and destitute children. He also declared that an annual Sports Day will be organized every year on November 14 for children residing in Bal Ashrams, with adequate budgetary support from the government.

Highlighting the government’s commitment, the Chief Minister said that the state has “adopted” all orphaned children as its own. The government not only covers their educational expenses but also provides them with a monthly allowance of ₹4,000 as pocket money. He added that residential facilities at state-run children’s homes will be upgraded and enhanced to ensure better living standards.

Sukhu further announced that students from Bal Ashrams will be sent on educational tours outside the state to broaden their horizons and learning experiences. He encouraged the children to focus on their studies and later contribute to the nation in various capacities.

On this occasion, Mayor Surender Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, Director of Women and Child Development Pankaj Lalit, and Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap were also present.
