Megan Elizabeth Roberts had gone missing during a solo paragliding flight over the Dhauladhar range in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district. Authorities confirmed on Monday that the 27-year-old Canadian national has been located.

Roberts had taken off alone from Bir Billing on Saturday when she made an emergency landing. Search operations were launched based on coordinates sent from her satellite phone.

According to officials, a rescue team has reached the crash site on foot at an altitude of around 13,000 feet.

Baijnath Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sankalp Gautam told PTI, “Due to heavy cloud cover, helicopters have been unable to land at the spot. The paraglider is being brought down to an altitude of 10,000 feet, from where she will be airlifted.”

The ongoing rescue effort is being led jointly by the Billing Paragliding Association and the local administration.

On Sunday, a private helicopter made four flights in search of Roberts.

It is not yet known whether the paraglider has survived.
