A car bearing a Haryana registration number was completely gutted in a fire at the Parwanoo toll barrier early this morning. Fortunately, the occupants escaped unhurt as they managed to get out of the vehicle in time.
The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. when the driver stopped at the toll booth to pay the tax. Moments later, the car suddenly caught fire. The flames quickly spread, engulfing a large portion of the toll barrier, which was severely damaged. However, the toll staff narrowly escaped harm.
Sources estimated the loss at around ₹7 lakh, while property worth nearly ₹15 lakh was saved due to the timely response of the fire department.
Upon receiving the alert, a team of five firefighters along with a fire engine rushed to the spot. It took them nearly three hours to bring the blaze under control, said Santosh Sharma, Commandant of the Home Guards stationed in Solan.
