Dr. Vasu Singh, a native of Maharal village in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district, has been reappointed by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro to the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islander Affairs (AAPI) — marking her fourth consecutive term on the panel.

Born in Hamirpur and later raised in Dharamshala, Kangra district, Dr. Singh has been recognized for her long-standing commitment to public service and advocacy for AAPI communities across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

She is a family medicine physician based in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, affiliated with the St. Luke’s University Health Network. Dr. Singh earned her medical degree from a college in Bijapur, Karnataka, and completed her postgraduate training in family medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital, Pennsylvania. Before moving to the United States in 1996, she worked as a junior resident at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi.

Despite living abroad, Dr. Singh has maintained close ties with her home state, contributing to healthcare and educational initiatives in several villages across Kangra district. She also mentors students from Himachal Pradesh, helping them pursue medical education and training opportunities in the United States.

From 2015 to 2017, she served as Vice President of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) and continues to play an active role in numerous professional and community organizations across the U.S.

The Governor’s Advisory Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islander Affairs acts as a vital link between the state government and the AAPI community, providing recommendations on issues such as health equity, education, language access, public safety, and economic development.

Dr. Singh previously served two consecutive terms under former Governor Tom Wolf and a third under Governor Shapiro. Her reappointment reflects both the Governor’s confidence in her leadership and her deep understanding of the social and cultural needs of Pennsylvania’s diverse Asian communities.
