Brother of Himachal BJP Chief Arrested for Alleged Rape at Solan Clinic

In a major embarrassment for the Bharatiya Janata Party, Ram Kumar Bindal — elder brother of Himachal Pradesh BJP president Rajeev Bindal — was arrested by Solan police on Friday for allegedly raping a 25-year-old woman at his clinic on Mall Road.

Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said the woman had lodged a complaint at the women’s police station on October 8. She stated that she had visited Bindal’s Ayurvedic clinic near the old bus stand on October 7 for treatment of an illness. During the consultation, Bindal allegedly held her hand, pressed her veins, and asked her questions about her sexual health. When she shared her concerns, he assured her of a full recovery and showed her a medical book.

However, the woman alleged that Bindal insisted on examining her private parts, which she refused. Despite her objection, he allegedly raped her under the pretext of a medical examination.

Following the complaint, a team from the State Forensic Science Laboratory inspected the clinic and collected evidence. Based on the survivor’s statement, forensic findings, and technical evidence, Solan police arrested 80-year-old Ram Kumar Bindal, a resident of Bindal Colony, Solan.

When contacted, BJP state president Rajeev Bindal said the allegations against his elder brother were “deeply distressing” for the family. He expressed shock, noting that his 80-year-old brother — a respected Ayurvedic practitioner with grandchildren — had an impeccable reputation. Calling the incident “a new low,” he hinted at a possible conspiracy and urged the police to consider whether a man of his brother’s age was even capable of such an act.
