Fresh Snowfall on Dhauladhar Range Brings a Chill to Himachal’s Hill Towns

Fresh snowfall on the Dhauladhar mountain range and overnight rain in parts of Kangra and Chamba districts have brought a noticeable dip in temperatures across several Himachal Pradesh hill towns, marking the onset of early winter conditions.
The sudden change in weather replaced the warm sunshine of the past few days with a crisp chill across Dharamshala, McLeodganj, Kangra, Palampur, Dalhousie, Chamba, and Bharmaur.
According to the Meteorological Department, Dharamshala and nearby McLeodganj received 25.5 mm of rainfall overnight, while Palampur recorded 10.2 mm, Kangra 18.4 mm, and Chamba 4 mm.
Minimum temperatures dropped notably, with Dharamshala at 16.5°C, McLeodganj 9.8°C, Palampur 11.5°C, Kangra 15.3°C, Chamba 16.8°C, Dalhousie 8.6°C, and Bharmaur 13°C.
Intermittent showers continued through the morning in several areas, blanketing the upper mountain peaks in dense fog. The Dhauladhar range, now coated with a fresh layer of snow, offered a spectacular sight — drawing the attention of tourists and photographers alike.
The shift in weather has brought relief to residents and visitors in Dharamshala, who had been facing unusually warm and humid conditions in recent days. Locals have welcomed the chill as a “pleasant sign of the approaching winter”, while tourism operators expect a surge in weekend visitors eager to experience the season’s first snowfall in the higher reaches.
