Forgery of Government Official’s Signature: Case Registered in Shimla

A forgery case has been registered in Shimla after government documents allegedly bearing the forged signature of an officer currently posted in Keylong were used to provide undue benefits to an individual or trader, raising concerns of possible misuse of public funds.
The complaint was filed by Kalyani Gupta, presently serving as Assistant Commissioner (AC) in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Keylong. Gupta stated that she assumed her current role on July 7, 2025, after serving as Deputy CEO of the Himachal Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission (HPSRLM) in the Directorate of Rural Development, Shimla, from June 2022 to July 5, 2025.
Gupta alleged that on September 27, Rural Development Director Raghav Sharma informed her of a government sanction order from September 2025 that carried her forged signature. She clarified that since she was posted in Keylong at the time, the document was fraudulent. She also raised the possibility that other forged documents may have been created.
Acting on the complaint, Shimla police registered a zero FIR under Sections 318(4), 335, 336(1), 336(2), 336(3), 336(4), 340(1), and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. An investigation into the matter is now underway. — TNS
