Delhi Resident Arrested in Connection with Kullu Bomb Threat Email
Authorities have arrested a Delhi resident in connection with the bomb threat that shook Kullu district earlier this year. The suspect has been brought to Kullu for further investigation following months of coordinated interstate efforts by law enforcement agencies.
The case dates back to May 2, 2025, when an email threatening a bomb blast was received at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kullu. The threat triggered panic, prompting immediate searches across the district and heightened security in government offices and public spaces.
Cyber forensic teams traced the source of the email to two mobile devices recovered from Mangalore and Bangalore. Investigations revealed that one of the devices had been stolen from Madikeri, Karnataka. This led authorities to Nitin Sharma, a resident of Baljeet Nagar, New Delhi, who has a prior criminal record of issuing similar bomb threats in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Hyderabad, and other states.
In August 2025, Sharma was arrested by Mysuru police with the cooperation of southern law enforcement agencies. He was recently brought to Kullu on transit remand and formally taken into custody by local police. A five-day police remand has been secured for detailed interrogation and recovery of digital evidence.
Kullu Superintendent of Police Kartikeyan Gokulchandran said, “The accused has a history of similar offenses. We are examining all leads, including his digital footprint and past associations. Forensic analysis is underway to establish links with the devices recovered in Karnataka.”
Investigators suspect Sharma may be part of a wider cybercrime and digital extortion network. They are probing whether the Kullu DC office threat was an isolated incident or part of a coordinated campaign aimed at disrupting administrative operations across multiple states.
Following the May incident, the district administration reviewed its security protocols and strengthened digital monitoring of official communications. Though no explosives were found at the time, the threat was treated with utmost seriousness given its potential implications.
Residents and officials have expressed relief over the breakthrough. Authorities have reassured the public that every measure is being taken to ensure their safety as the investigation continues.
