Ten IPS Officers Appointed as Special Director General and Special Director

Ten Indian Police Service (IPS) officers have been appointed as Special Director General (SDG) and Special Director (SD) across various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and intelligence agencies, following approval by the Cabinet Committee on Appointments (ACC).
Among the appointees are 1994-batch IPS officers Rakesh Agrawal of the Himachal Pradesh cadre and his batchmate Anurag Kumar of the AGMUT cadre.
- Rakesh Agrawal, currently ADG at the National Investigation Agency (NIA), has been temporarily elevated and appointed as Special Director General of NIA for a two-year tenure.
- Anurag Kumar, serving as Additional Director at the Intelligence Bureau (IB), has been temporarily promoted and appointed as Special Director at the same agency for a two-year term.
In addition to them, seven other IPS officers from the 1994 batch have been elevated to senior positions:
- Anupama Nilekar Chandra (SSB) – ADG, promoted temporarily for two years and appointed Special Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
- Deepak Kumar (CRPF) – ADG, temporarily promoted for two years and appointed Special Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
- Raja Srivastava (CRPF) – ADG, appointed Special Director General of CRPF until his retirement on 28 February 2029.
- Amit Kumar (CRPF) – ADG, appointed Special Director General of CRPF until retirement on 31 October 2030.
- Mahesh Kumar Agrawal (BSF) – ADG, appointed Special Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) until retirement on 31 March 2032.
- Vinayak Prabhakar Apte (IB) – Additional Secretary, temporarily upgraded for two years and appointed In-Situ Special Director of IB.
- Manmeet Singh Narang (IB) – Additional Director, appointed Special Director of IB.
Additionally, Zaki Ahmed, a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been appointed Special Director General of CRPF until his retirement on 31 March 2028.
These appointments reflect a mix of temporary elevations for fixed terms and long-term postings aligned with officers’ respective retirement dates, strengthening leadership across India’s police and intelligence agencies.
