Kangana Ranaut Skips Bathinda Court Hearing in Defamation Case, Proceedings Adjourned to October 27

BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut did not appear before the Bathinda court on Monday in a defamation case filed by elderly farmer Mahinder Kaur. The case stems from Ranaut’s remarks during the farmers’ protest, in which she referred to Kaur as the “Shaheen Bagh dadi” and alleged that women were being paid to join the demonstrations.
Ranaut’s counsel requested that she be allowed to appear via video conferencing, but the court rejected the plea. The court had earlier issued summons for her to appear on September 29, which she failed to comply with.
Mahinder Kaur’s lawyer, Raghubir Singh Bahniwal, said Ranaut had previously ignored summons, prompting the court to issue them through the SSP. The court has now directed her to appear without further delay. Owing to her absence, the matter has been adjourned until October 27.
Ranaut had earlier petitioned the Punjab and Haryana High Court to dismiss the case, but her plea was rejected. She then approached the Supreme Court, which also dismissed her appeal. She is now required to appear before the Bathinda court on October 27.
