16th Garhwal Rifles Honored for Heroic Role in Kangra Landslide Relief

Kangra MP Dr. Rajeev Bhardwaj this month presented a certificate of appreciation to the 16th Garhwal Rifles, commending their courage and dedication during recent disaster relief operations.
On September 17–18, a massive landslide struck Bachhwai panchayat in the Sulah assembly constituency, damaging 14 houses and trapping several families. Soldiers from the 16th Garhwal Rifles rushed to the site, rescuing villagers to safety and providing first aid, food, water, and other essentials. They also recovered valuables and household items from the damaged homes and returned them to affected families.
Praising the battalion for its “indomitable courage and tireless service,” Dr. Bhardwaj said their actions not only saved lives but also lifted the morale of those devastated by the disaster. “Their work truly embodies the Army’s motto—Service Before Self,” he remarked.
Local BJP legislator and former Speaker Vipin Singh Parmar also lauded the unit’s efforts, noting that the Garhwal Rifles provided timely relief not only in Bachhwai but also in other affected villages across his constituency.
