Senior Actor Passes Away on Stage During Ramleela in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh

A tragic incident occurred in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, during a Ramleela performance when senior theatre artist Amrish Kumar, portraying the character of Dasharath, suffered a heart attack on stage and passed away.

The incident happened as Kumar began delivering his dialogue, suddenly staggering and collapsing in front of the audience and fellow performers. Video footage shows him falling unexpectedly, causing immediate shock and concern among spectators and cast members.

Organizers quickly drew the curtain, halted the performance, and rushed Kumar to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

A native of Chamba, Amrish Kumar had been a cornerstone of the Ramleela tradition for over five decades. He was renowned for his powerful portrayals of characters such as Dasharath and Ravan, captivating audiences across the region. His performances consistently drew large crowds and inspired generations of theatre enthusiasts.

Sudesh Mahajan, a member of the Ramleela Club, told ANI, “This is an irreplaceable loss. Amrish ji was not just an actor; he was the soul of Ramleela in Chamba. His dedication and passion inspired generations. May God grant peace to his soul and strength to his family in this difficult time.”

In light of this tragedy, the Ramleela Club has announced the postponement of all upcoming performances.
