A tragic incident occurred in Paonta Sahib, Sirmaur district, on Tuesday when three young men, including two brothers, were swept away by the strong current of the Yamuna River.

Rescue operations are underway, but divers have so far been unable to trace the missing youths due to the river’s powerful flow.

According to reports, the victims were returning from Uttarakhand after carrying a deity’s palanquin. Upon reaching Paonta Sahib, the group stopped at the Yamuna ghat. One youth entered the river to bathe but began to drown, prompting the other two to rush in to save him. Unfortunately, all three were carried away by the swift current.

Police and district authorities were immediately informed, following which divers and rescue teams launched a search operation.

The missing youths have been identified as Amit (23), Kamlesh (22), and Rajnish (20), all residents of Gwali village in the Shillai Assembly constituency.

Paonta Sahib Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gunjit Singh Cheema and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Manvendra Thakur are on-site supervising the rescue efforts. Divers have been deployed, but officials said the force of the river continues to hinder the search.

Authorities assured that all possible measures are being taken to locate the missing youths.
