Himachal Welcomes Its First ‘Sikh Bride’: Vikramaditya Singh Says, “A New Chapter Begins in My Life”
Himachal Pradesh minister Vikramaditya Singh tied the knot with Amreen Sekhon in a grand wedding ceremony held in Chandigarh. The Anand Karaj was performed at a gurdwara in Sector 11, attended only by close family members.
Vikramaditya wore a pastel pink sherwani paired with a vibrant orange-and-pink turban. A traditional kalgi and sword completed his attire, adding a regal touch that reflected his royal lineage. Amreen, meanwhile, looked graceful in an intricately embroidered peach lehenga, accessorized with golden kaleere adorning her wrists, perfectly complementing her traditional bridal look.
After the ceremony, Singh expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and blessings from across the country. “This marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life,” he said, thanking everyone for their support and warm wishes. When asked about any vows exchanged between the couple, Singh simply blushed and smiled, choosing not to elaborate. His bride, Amreen, stood beside him, her face partially veiled in a traditional ghoonghat, lending the moment a dignified cultural charm.
On the political front, Singh acknowledged the difficult situation in Himachal Pradesh following recent floods. He admitted the challenges remain serious but assured that the government is working with full dedication to restore normalcy and bring the state back on track.
The bride, Amreen Sekhon, hails from a Sikh family and is an accomplished academic. She holds dual master’s degrees in English and Psychology, a PhD in Psychology, and has also studied at Harvard University. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Panjab University. She is the daughter of Sardar Jotinder Singh Sekhon and Opinder Kaur.
This is not the first time the Rampur-Bushahr royal family has forged ties with Sikh royalty. Vikramaditya’s sister, Aparajita Singh, is married into the former Patiala royal family, as the wife of Angad Singh, grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister and Maharaja of Patiala, Captain Amarinder Singh.
Their engagement and wedding in New Delhi a few years ago brought together prominent political and royal figures, including Virbhadra Singh and Amarinder Singh—both stalwarts of the Congress party and long-time allies—uniting two of North India’s most influential royal-political dynasties.
A two-time MLA from Shimla Rural, Vikramaditya Singh currently serves as Himachal Pradesh’s Minister for Public Works and Urban Development.
