District administration directs online classes

A major landslide near St. Edward’s School on Shimla’s main Circular Road around 2:00 a.m. on Friday has disrupted traffic and raised serious safety concerns for the school, nearby residential buildings, and other structures in the vicinity.

As a precautionary measure, the district administration has ordered St. Edward’s School to remain closed for two days—September 19 and 20. School authorities have been instructed to conduct classes online during this period.

District officials, police, and Home Guard personnel rushed to the site soon after the incident and are engaged in clearing the debris.

Meanwhile, across Himachal Pradesh, at least 606 roads—including two national highways—remain blocked due to heavy rains. Power supply has also been hit, with 228 transformers still out of service. According to the meteorological department, rainfall is expected to continue across the state until September 24.
