Tragic Road Accident in Kotkhai: Pickup Falls into Gorge, Four Dead

The monsoon season in Himachal Pradesh has once again brought grim reminders of the dangers posed by slippery and narrow mountain roads. Accidents on these routes continue unabated. On Monday, a tragic accident occurred in the Ramnagar area under Kotkhai police jurisdiction in Shimla district, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to three others. Most of the deceased are reported to be laborers of Nepali origin.
According to reports, a pickup vehicle was passing along a link road when it suddenly lost control and plunged into a deep gorge. The crash triggered panic at the site, with nearby residents rushing to assist. Local villagers immediately began rescue efforts and informed the police.
Upon receiving the information, Kotkhai police reached the scene with a team and began rescue operations. The injured were quickly pulled from the gorge and taken to the nearest hospital. Kotkhai SHO confirmed that four people lost their lives in the accident — two died on the spot, while two others succumbed to injuries during treatment. Three others are currently receiving medical care.
The tragedy has cast a pall of grief over the area. Police are in the process of identifying the deceased and the injured, while the administration has assured families of all possible support. The police are also investigating the cause of the accident.

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep sorrow over the death of five people in a road accident in Ramnagar village of Kotkhai sub-division, Shimla district, on Monday. One other person was injured in the mishap.
The Chief Minister extended his condolences to the bereaved families and assured that the state government stands by them, offering every possible assistance. He directed that the injured receive the best possible medical treatment and wished for their speedy recovery. He also prayed for peace to the departed souls and strength for their families to endure the immense loss.
