Over 450 Roads Still Blocked in Himachal; Yellow Alert Issued for Tuesday
The weather department has forecast continued rainfall across the state until September 21.
Due to heavy rains, 493 roads—including three national highways—remain blocked across Himachal Pradesh, and around 352 power transformers are non-functional.
According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, approximately 155 roads are blocked in Kullu, including NH 03 and NH 305; 152 in Mandi; 57 in Shimla; 29 in Kangra; 26 in Chamba; 19 in Sirmaur; 18 in Una, including NH 503A; 14 in Solan; 12 in Bilaspur; 9 in Hamirpur; and 2 in Kinnaur district.
Out of 500 affected transformers, 170 in Mandi, 75 in Kullu, 74 in Hamirpur, 25 in Chamba, and 8 in Kangra remain shut, leaving several areas without power. Additionally, 163 water supply schemes are disrupted, affecting drinking water access in many parts of the state. The affected schemes include 53 in Mandi, 49 in Shimla, 21 in Hamirpur, 19 in Chamba, 16 in Kangra, 4 in Solan, and 1 in Bilaspur.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall continued in several parts of the state over the past 24 hours. Bhatyat in Chamba recorded the highest rainfall at 100 mm, followed by Jogindernagar in Mandi with 60 mm. Other districts reported the following: Palampur (48 mm), Pandoh in Mandi (40 mm), Kangra (34 mm), Mandi town (27.5 mm), Sundernagar (11.4 mm), Nadaun (10 mm), Dharamshala (6.5 mm), and Una (3.8 mm).
The Himachal Pradesh Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall on September 16 in Shimla, Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Bilaspur, and Sirmaur districts, warning of intense rain in select areas. The department has also predicted rainfall across the entire state through September 21.
