Over 550 Roads Blocked in Himachal Pradesh; Rainfall Expected Across the State Until September 20

Monsoon Causes ₹4,489.05 Crore in Damage; 229 Lives Lost Due to Landslides, Floods, and Cloudbursts

Himachal Pradesh is grappling with severe monsoon-related disruptions, with 568 roads blocked across the state, including three national highways.

According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, nearly 176 roads in Mandi, 172 in Kullu (including NH 03 and NH 305), 58 in Shimla, 46 in Kangra, 29 in Chamba, 24 in Sirmaur, 23 in Una (including NH 503A), 17 in Solan, 14 in Bilaspur, seven in Hamirpur, and two in Kinnaur remain obstructed.

In addition, power and water supply have been badly affected. A total of 373 transformers have failed, including 214 in Mandi, 128 in Kullu, 26 in Chamba, four in Shimla, and one in Kangra. Likewise, 188 water supply schemes have been disrupted: 61 in Shimla, 53 in Mandi, 27 in Hamirpur, 26 in Chamba, 17 in Kangra, two in Sirmaur, and one each in Solan and Bilaspur.

So far, the state has suffered estimated losses of ₹4,489.05 crore due to torrential rains and related disasters during the monsoon season. Tragically, 229 people have lost their lives. The state has witnessed 140 landslides, 97 flash floods, and 46 cloudburst events, causing extensive damage across districts.

Heavy rainfall continued over the last 24 hours in several areas. Dharamshala recorded the highest at 232.4 mm, followed by Palampur in Kangra with 126.4 mm, Sundernagar with 77.6 mm, Kangra town with 30.7 mm, Mandi with 26.2 mm, Nahan with 14.6 mm, Kufri with 14.2 mm, and Shimla with 11.4 mm.

The state’s meteorological department has forecasted that rainfall is likely to persist in many parts of Himachal Pradesh until September 20.
