Heavy Rain Wreaks Havoc in Himachal: Over 600 Roads Closed, Yellow Alert Issued

Three National Highways Affected; Power and Water Supplies Disrupted Across Several Districts
Himachal Pradesh is battling severe rainfall, with more than 650 roads, including three national highways, blocked across the state.
According to the State Emergency Operations Center, Mandi district has been the worst hit, with 246 roads obstructed. In Kullu, 172 roads—including National Highways 3 and 305—have been affected.
Other impacted districts include Shimla (58 roads), Kangra (45), Chamba (38), Sirmaur (24), Una (23, including NH 503A), Solan (17), Bilaspur (13), Hamirpur (12), and Kinnaur (2).
Alongside road closures, electricity and water supply systems have also been severely affected.
A total of 185 transformers are currently out of service—93 in Kullu, 64 in Mandi, 24 in Chamba, and 4 in Shimla—leaving many areas without power.
Additionally, 343 water supply schemes have been disrupted, with the highest impact in Kangra (176), followed by Shimla (61), Mandi (53), Hamirpur (27), Chamba (17), Kullu (6), Sirmaur (2), and Solan (1).
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow weather alert for Sunday, forecasting continued heavy rainfall in Shimla, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Sirmaur districts.
