The District Magistrate has clarified that vehicles involved in emergency services and maintaining law and order will be exempt from these restrictions.

To reduce traffic congestion on the roads, the Dharamshala administration has imposed a ban on roadside parking along all major routes. Vehicles are now required to park only in designated areas marked with yellow stripes.

Officials stated that District Magistrate Hemraj Bairwa issued the new parking guidelines based on the recommendations of a joint committee comprising the Superintendent of Police, Municipal Commissioner, Additional SP, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate. The committee conducted a review of the city’s Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS).

Parking is now prohibited on several roads, including Degree College Chowk to Education Board, Chilgari Bifurcation to Khanna Clinic, Court Chowk to Bharat Optical, Hanuman Temple to HPCA Stadium, KCC Chowk to Police Line, Baba Medical Store to Charan Bazar, Maximus Mall to Kali Mata Temple, Kotwali Bazar to Indrunag Temple link road, Red Cross Chowk to Sheela Petrol Pump, and Dari Bypass to Dari Post Office.

Under this system, two key roads — from Khanna Clinic to Hotel Center Point and from Kanya Vidyalaya Depot Bazar to BSNL District Court Complex — will also be converted into one-way routes.

The District Magistrate reiterated that vehicles providing emergency services or involved in maintaining law and order will not be subject to these parking restrictions.

Bairwa further instructed the Public Works Department to install one-way signage within two weeks, while the Municipal Corporation has been tasked with marking the designated yellow-striped parking zones within three weeks and preparing a detailed parking management plan within four weeks.

He also added that the Superintendent of Police will submit monthly compliance reports.

“This initiative aims to ease traffic congestion on busy roads, improve public convenience, and ensure better traffic discipline,” Bairwa said. He also noted that the order will remain in force until further notice.
