Chief Minister Announces ₹8.7 Lakh Relief for Each Displaced Family in Sujanpur
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today conducted a ground assessment of flood and landslide-affected areas in the Sujanpur Assembly constituency.
Reiterating the state government’s commitment to providing immediate and sustained support to those impacted, the Chief Minister assured that no affected family would be left without help.
During his visit to Khairi and surrounding villages, the Chief Minister reviewed the extensive damage caused by recent natural disasters. He later inspected the severely affected area of Chabutra village, where multiple families have been displaced due to land subsidence.
Interacting with the victims, the Chief Minister assured them of full government assistance and announced a relief package. He stated that each displaced family in Chabutra would receive ₹8.7 lakh in aid, including ₹7 lakh from the state government for house reconstruction, ₹70,000 for essential household items, and an additional ₹1 lakh from Captain Ranjeet Singh, the MLA from Sujanpur constituency.
“The state government stands firmly with every affected family during this crisis,” Sukhu said. “Our focus is not only on providing immediate relief but also on long-term rehabilitation.” He further added that damage assessments are underway in other parts of the district, and relief measures will be extended accordingly.
The Chief Minister also announced that the state government would raise the issue of allocating safe land for rehabilitation before the central government, with a particular focus on transferring suitable forest land. A detailed memorandum outlining the total damage caused by the monsoon in Himachal Pradesh is being prepared for submission to the central government.
Later in the day, the Chief Minister held a public outreach program in Kutheda, where he heard residents’ grievances and directed officials to ensure timely resolution. The event was attended by MLA Suresh Kumar, Ram Chandra Pathania (Chairman of Kangra Central Cooperative Bank), Naresh Thakur (Coordinator of the State Anti-Drug Board), senior Congress leader Dr. Pushpendra Verma, Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh, and Superintendent of Police Bhagat Singh Thakur.
In a heartwarming gesture, staff and students of the Government Senior Secondary School in Nalti presented a cheque for ₹1 lakh to the Chief Minister at the NIT helipad. The funds were collected and donated by students as part of an initiative launched by the school’s NCC unit earlier this month.
School NCC Officer Devendra Singh Banyal shared that the students and cadets not only contributed from their pocket money but also encouraged other villagers to donate to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. School staff also played a part in reaching the final contribution of ₹1 lakh. The Chief Minister appreciated the students’ and staff’s compassion and solidarity.
Earlier, at Jangal Beri helipad, the Chief Minister delighted children by offering them a joyride in his helicopter. When the children asked to see the helicopter up close, he not only allowed them to board it but also instructed the pilots to give them a short ride inside.
