823 Roads Blocked and Power Supply Disrupted in Himachal Pradesh Amid Heavy Rainfall

Heavy rainfall continues across Himachal Pradesh today, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue orange and yellow weather alerts for various districts.

According to the State Emergency Operations Center, a total of 823 roads, including three national highways, remain closed to vehicular traffic due to the ongoing rain. Additionally, power distribution has been severely affected, with 1,181 transformers out of service across the state.

Kullu district is the worst-hit, with 227 roads blocked, including stretches of National Highway-03 and National Highway-305. Mandi follows with 188 blocked roads, Shimla with 141, Chamba with 88, Sirmaur with 52, Kangra with 44, Una (including NH-70) with 26, Bilaspur with 24, Solan with 17, Lahaul and Spiti with 9, Kinnaur with 4, and Hamirpur with 3 road closures.

The rain has also disrupted electricity supply. Of the 1,181 affected transformers, Kullu has 722, Chamba 171, Mandi 127, Sirmaur 76, Shimla 68, Lahaul-Spiti 11, and Solan 6 non-functional units.

The Meteorological Department forecasts continued heavy rainfall on Monday. An orange alert has been issued for Sirmaur, with certain areas expected to experience intense downpours. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Shimla, Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Chamba, Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Lahaul-Spiti districts, where some locations may receive light rain.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urging residents to exercise caution.
