Retired Employees in Himachal Pradesh to Be Rehired for Only One Year
The Himachal Pradesh government has revised its reemployment policy for retired employees, now allowing them to be rehired for a maximum period of one year — and without benefits such as housing allowances or medical facilities.
The state has also withdrawn the high grade-pay policy that was introduced in 2022.
The Principal Secretary (Finance) has informed all administrative heads through a letter about the amendments to the earlier reemployment policy dated 24th July 2024. It has been clarified that retired employees can be rehired only for a period of one year, except in specific cases such as consultancy roles where the period may be extended beyond one year. The decision was taken considering that retired employees are already eligible for medical benefits and can continue to retain their government accommodation as per the rules applicable before retirement.
In another notification issued by the Finance Department, the government revoked the high-grade pay introduced by the previous BJP government on 3rd January 2022. This move is expected to impact several employees who had been availing the benefit.
The amendments were issued in light of a pending case in the Himachal Pradesh High Court. A notification related to changes in the Himachal Pradesh Civil Services (Revised Pay) Rules, 2022 has been circulated. The decision may cause dissatisfaction among certain employee groups who could be affected by the changes.
Although the notification will be applicable from 3rd January 2022, employees who received benefits during the past two and a half years will not be asked to return any extra payments made before this revision. However, some employees may see a reduction in their salaries following the implementation of the new rules.
