Six Bodies Recovered, Two Missing After Two Landslides in Bheteri Akhara Bazaar, Kullu

Following two devastating landslides in the Bheteri Akhara Bazaar area of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, a total of six bodies have been recovered so far, while two individuals remain missing as rescue operations continue.
According to officials, the first landslide occurred on Wednesday morning, burying two people under debris. Rescue teams recovered the body of a local resident on Friday, while a member of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is still untraced in the area.
The situation worsened on Thursday morning when another landslide struck the same region, trapping nine people. Rescue teams successfully pulled out three injured individuals from the debris. As of this morning, five bodies have been recovered from the second landslide site, while one person is still reported missing.
Kullu Superintendent of Police (SP) Karthikeyan Gokulchandran confirmed the developments, stating, “A total of six bodies have been recovered from both landslide sites. Two people are still missing—one from each location. The search and rescue operation is ongoing with the joint efforts of the NDRF, police, and local administration.”
The victims include both local residents and individuals from other regions. Authorities confirmed that the bodies of the deceased from Kashmir have been sent to their hometowns with the assistance of the district administration.
Continuous heavy rainfall has triggered repeated landslides in the region, causing widespread destruction and posing ongoing risks to residents and rescue teams alike. Challenging terrain and unstable conditions are making recovery efforts difficult.
Local authorities have urged residents to avoid high-risk areas and cooperate with evacuation and safety protocols. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and has assured all possible support to the affected families.
Search operations are still underway as rescue teams work tirelessly to reach the families of the missing amidst the debris.
